Listening to Bella Sorella is like a trip to heaven. Surely the angels don’t sing any better. This soprano duo, comprised of Nova and Susanna Jiménez, has been transporting audiences to celestial realms since 2005. Magnetic stage presence, ethereal tones, ravishing gowns, and sparkling good humor are all part of the experience.

These wonderful singers have earned praises throughout the United States and abroad, and won numerous awards for their renditions of both classical and contemporary tunes. Their crossover appeal has earned them kudos from fans of Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Queen, and Andrea Bocelli.

Their music spans more than 300 years and seven languages. Dazzling audiences throughout California, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Nevada, Utah, Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Japan, and Italy, Bella Sorella has garnered numerous accolades, including “Vocal Group of the Year” from the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2007.

Fate brought Nova and Susanna together. Roommates during their freshman year in college, they found themselves spontaneously harmonizing in the dorms to give themselves a break from their studies. To make ends meet during those school years, they worked the 6:00 am shift at a local café. Customers heard them humming and began requesting songs. These impromptu café concerts turned into one-hour shows, and then an invitation to debut at Boston’s famous Hatch Shell Theater as part of WCRB Radio’s Summer Concert Series.

Bella Sorella means “beautiful sister.” Though it’s obvious from their appearances that Nova and Susanna do not share a genetic history, they are, interestingly, married to brothers. However, the fact that these two are sisters-in-law seems almost beside the point. The friendship and love of music that Nova and Susanna share binds them together more closely than many biological siblings.

Their voices match so perfectly that they are sisters by every artistic definition. As they sing “Compagna tua, compagna m’avrai” – (“Truly I’ll prove to you a companion”) the audience knows that the emotion between these two is genuine.
